BIRDWATCHING TRIP TO SWEDEN
7th to 15th September 2024
With 8 participants, we started the trip in Falsterbo, Scania, with accommodation at Höllviksnäs, Höllviken, Sept 7-12.
Falsterbo is known for its fantastic migration possibilities, especially the autumn migration of raptors, passerines and wildfowl and plenty of waders. Among many others we saw the White-tailed eagle (Hallaeetus albicilla albicilla), the Osprey (Pandion haliaetus), Red Kite, (Milvus milvus milvus) and Eurasian Sparrowhawk (Assipiter nisus nisus).
The trip continued to the island of Öland, with accommodation at Gammalsbygården, September12 – 15.
Öland is also well known for migratory birds. The Ottenby Bird Observatory, at the southern cape of Öland, has conducted research on migratory birds since 1946.
The trip also included information on banding of birds at Falsterbo and Ottenby Bird Observatories, bird talks and cultural programmes, eg. visits to Karlskrona Marine Museum and Eketorp Ancient Hillfort.
